Carlin S. Long, MD, is a UCSF Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for Prevention of Heart and Vascular Disease. Dr. Long earned his MD at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Long received his Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at the University of California San Francisco where he stayed as faculty member until 1998 when he joined the faculty of the University of Colorado. Dr Longs research is focused on understanding the role of pro-inflammatory molecules in the transition from compensated to decompensated myocardial failure. He is particularly interested in how cells in the heart “speak†to one another in normal and abnormal growth with a particular interest on the cardiac fibroblast which initiates the process of repair within the heart muscle both in response to injuries such as heart attack, but also that seen in long-standing high blood pressure and certain valvular diseases.

Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. mult. Roland Hetzer has been Chairman of Marfan Center and Director for Department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery at Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin since 1985. Prof. Hetzer has been Professor at Free University of Berlin and Humboldt University of Berlin since 1985. Prof. Hetzer serves as the Chairman of the German Heart Institute Berlin. He has been Medical Director, Heart Institute Cottbus since October 1998. He has been Teaching responsibilities at the Klinikum Steglitz (heart surgery) and Klinikum Rudolf Virchow (cardiothoracic and vascular surgery): lecturer, course leader, examiner since 1988. He founded Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin in January 1986. He established establishment of the then largest heart transplantation program in Germany since July 1983. He has been Associate professor, Medical University Hanover since 1983. He got Specialist qualification in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery since 1981. He did Habilitation thesis on “Experimental and clinical contributions on surgical reperfusion following ischemic myocardial infarction†in 1979. He has been Senior physician, Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Medical University Hanover since January 1978. He got Specialist qualification in surgery in 1977. He got Federal Licensing Examination (FLEX), USA since 1977. He did Clinical Fellow in Cardiovascular Surgery at the Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco and Stanford University from March 1976 to December 1977. He has been Scientific assistant, Department of Surgery and specialist training in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, abdominal and transplantation surgery, and trauma surgery, Medical University Hanover since June 1971. He was Licensed as a physician in August 1970. He got Certification by the US authorities (ECFMG) in 1970. He was Assistant physician, Urological Hospital Siebentischwald, Augusburg from October 1970 to May 1971. He was Medical assistant, Municipal Hospital Haunstetten, Augsburg from 1969 to 1970. He has been Member of Supervisory Board of Berlin Heart GmbH (Berlin Heart Ag) since January 8, 2001. Prof. Hetzer served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Lifebridge Medizintechnik AG. He is considered to be one of the worldwide leading heart surgeons and has a global multiplicator function as opinion leader in this sector. Awards include 2006 -Honorary doctorship of Burdenko Medical Academy, Woronesch,- 2006 Urania medal of the city of Berlin for contributions to scientific education of the public ,-2002 Honorary doctorship of the University of Sarajevo,- 2002 Honorary doctorship of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw,- 2001 Honorary doctorship of the University of Fujian, -1999 Honorary doctorship of Shanghai Second Medical University, 1998 -1996 prize of the German Druid Order, awarded on the 125th anniversary of the organization,- 1995 German Federal Cross of Merit,- 1987 Berlin Award of Merit. He studied Medical studies, University of Munich Doctoral thesis: "Cerebral perfusion measurement with Xenon 133 - Clinical application of a clearance method" (magna cum laude from 1964 to 1969. Samer Ellahham has served as Chief Quality Officer for Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, since 2009. Marco Piciche (MD, Ph.D.) graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Florence in 1995 and completed his cardiac surgery residency at the Tor Vergata University of Rome in 2000, both summa cum laude. He has worked as an assistant at Saint Luc Hospital, Catholic University of Louvain, Brussels from 1999 to 2001, as a clinic head/hospital assistant at the universities of Clermont-Ferrand from 2003 to 2004 and Montpellier from 2004 to 2007. He held regular teaching appointments at the university of Montpellier school of medicine, obtained certification by the French Board in cardiac surgery (Paris, 2007), earned his research master in surgical science (Paris, 2007). In Canada he authored a research project on -Noncoronary collateral circulation, which was submitted to the annual research competition at Quebec Heart & Lung Institute, Laval University, and received the competitions highest grant. In September 2011 he received a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) in therapeutic innovations from Paris-Sud University. He is the Editor in Chief of the book: Dawn and evolution of cardiac procedures: research avenues in cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology (Springer-Verlag publishing house). Currently he is a consultant cardiac surgeon in Italy.

Lemin Zheng has completed his PhD in 2005 from Cleveland Clinic/Cleveland State University in Clinical/Bioanalytical Chemistry. Currently, he is the lab director and professor in Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, Peking University (China), Key Laboratory of Molecular Cardiovascular Science of Ministry of Education. His main field of research is lipoprotein, lipids, vascular function and bio-material. He has published more than 60 papers in reputed journals, such as the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Clin. Cancer Res., Advanced Functional Materials, Nanoscale, ACS APPL MATER INTERFACES, Free Radical Biology and Medicine, JAHA, International Journal of Cardiology, BBA-Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, JBC, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, ATVB, Int.
