Pedro A. Jose completed his MD, magna cum laude, at the age of 22 years from The University of Santo Tomas, Philippines and his PhD from Georgetown University School at the age of 34 years. He received his training in Pediatric Nephrology and Cardiovascular Research from Georgetown University. He is Professor of Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Jose and his associates discovered genes that cause high blood pressure when sodium intake is excessive and more importantly, genes that cause high blood pressure when sodium intake is too low. He has published >380 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of repute. Dr. Jose has received research awards, e.g., 2003 Lewis K. Dahl Memorial Lecture (American Heart Association), 2007 Ernest H. Starling Distinguished Lecture (American Physiological Society), and 2015 Excellence Award for Hypertension Research (American Heart Association).

Gustav Steinhoff is known since several years as an expert in the medical field of stem cell therapies. He was the first clinician in 2001 to treat patients with intramyocardial transplantation of purified stem cells and is one of the pioneers of these new therapies. Besides his medical study at the Erasmus University Rotterdam Gustav Steinhoff performed research at the Baylor College in Houston, Texas. He completed his thesis in 1987 and worked as a surgeon at the University of Kiel and the Medical School Hannover, where he was appointed as an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery in 1998. In 2000 he moved to the University of Rostock as a Director and Chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery. There he continued his research on cardiac stem cell therapies and tissue engineering. He is currently Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at the Emory University School of Medicine. He was awarded The American College of Cardiology Harry B. Graf Career Development Award for Heart Disease Prevention and The American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology Scholarship for Physical Activity and Public Health in 2001.He received his undergraduate degree from Emory College where he was accepted into Emory University School of Medicine Early Acceptance Program as a college sophomore. He graduated with his M.D. in 1989, and subsequently completed 8 additional years of training at Emory including a residency in internal medicine, chief resident year at Emory University Hospital, an NIH-supported research fellowship in molecular and vascular medicine, and a clinical fellowship in cardiovascular diseases.He is co-editor for the Diabetes Self Assessment Program, was a member of the American College of Cardiology Prevention Committee, and currently serves as Chairman of the American College of Cardiology and Cardiometabolic Working group and National Cardiometabolic Alliance.
